Today, we're excited to announce that Syndicate and EigenCloud have partnered to deliver a groundbreaking solution for Ethereum rollups: programmable decentralized sequencer networks secured by native token staking—called AVS Sequencer Networks—requiring only write-side modifications while maintaining full compatibility with existing rollup frameworks like Arbitrum Nitro, OP Stack, and more.
Decentralized sequencer networks powered by Syndicate and EigenCloud’s infrastructure are the key to horizontally scaling Ethereum through infinite purpose-built chains—and delivering on the original promise of a community-owned internet.
The Challenge: Decentralizing Sequencers Without Breaking Everything
Ethereum’s rollup ecosystem has grown significantly, but most chains still rely on centralized sequencers. While teams recognize the importance of decentralization, the path forward has been complex, typically requiring extensive modifications to both the write and read sides of their infrastructure. This creates a significant barrier to adoption and increases the risk of fatal bugs and incompatibilities. As a result, almost no rollup sequencers are decentralized today.
At the same time, the apps on the internet that need verifiability are growing exponentially. Applications are migrating to their own purpose-built chains to transact and settle on, and they need to do this without having to rebuild their entire stack from scratch—especially as they look to increasingly customize, program, and decentralize their rollups and sequencers.
The Solution: AVS Sequencer Networks
Syndicate and EigenCloud are launching a solution that allows rollups to deploy native-token staked, programmable sequencer networks with minimal modifications—by combining EigenCloud AVSs and Syndicate Network—called AVS Sequencer Networks.
The key innovation is solving the centralization problems with current rollup frameworks, which assume trusted sequencers. By introducing AVS validation between the sequencer and chain during the state root posting process, it ensures only valid transactions get through, replacing centralized trust with decentralized validation. By coupling Syndicate Network (for its programmable sequencer smart contracts) with EigenCloud (for the dual AVSs and data availability), AVS Sequencer Networks can support most rollups with minimal integration work.

The system uses two AVSs: (1) a sequencer network where operators take turns proposing blocks round-robin—managed by customizable, programmable sequencer smart contracts on Syndicate Network, and (2) a proposer service that writes state roots to settlement chains like Ethereum and Base and optionally commits to EigenDA.
When a sequencer proposes a block during their turn, other proposers that are operating the AVS validate and sign the transactions. Once M-of-N signatures are collected, the transactions are written into programmable sequencer smart contracts on Syndicate Network (which uses EigenDA for data availability) and get picked up by the proposer AVS for state root commitment.
Decentralized Rollups with Superpowers
By coupling Syndicate Network and EigenCloud to create AVS Sequencer Networks, teams can:
- Keep their existing read-side rollup infrastructure unchanged
- Decentralize their sequencer with native token staking
- Benefit from EigenLayer's robust stake table registry and security infrastructure
- Program custom sequencing logic through Syndicate Network sequencer smart contracts like transaction ordering rules, MEV management strategies, priority fee structures, application-specific sequencing logic, and more
